The C-TAC and CAPC joint Leadership Summit opened to a sold-out event of nearly 500 healthcare leaders, caregivers, and policymakers on October 23-24, in Washington, DC.
The Summit included a packed agenda with topics ranging for health disparities/health equity, new models of care, advance care planning, social and spiritual needs, workforce development, caregiving, and federal regulatory and legislative updates.
Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) made a rally call for the opportunity we have now to improve care through Congressional action. And we heard from senior CMS leaders on the many opportunities already underway for improving measurement and care model innovation with Ellen Lukens, Deputy Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), Aditi Mallick, acting director of the Office of Minority Health at Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Purva Rawal, chief strategy officer, CMMI.
One of the Summit’s highlights was C-TAC’s inaugural Blue Chair Fund Awards. Ashley Thompson, senior vice president of the American Hospital Association, a supporter of the Blue Chair Fund, presented awards to three outstanding individuals.
- Amy Berman, Senior Program Officer at The John A. Hartford Foundation, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her commitment and dedication to improving the lives of older adults, especially those living with serious illness.
- Mona Negm, Founder of The American Muslim Senior Society, was recognized with the Patient Advocate Award for her decades of work to empower diverse seniors and caregivers by giving them access to culturally sensitive tools and resources to improve their quality of life and live in dignity.
- Brad Rosen, Vice President, Physician Alignment and Care Transitions at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, received the Clinician Leadership Award for advancing patient-centered care in medical education, clinical practice, and healthcare policies.
Alvia Care, President and CEO, Susan Ponder Stansel, spoke about Alivia’s support for the Blue Chair Fund’s work to improve the quality for people with serious illness and their caregivers. David Jones, Jr., C-TAC board member and founder of Chrysalis Ventures, spoke about his support for the Blue Chair Fund as a result of his experience as a caregiver for his father, and seeing the need to improve the health care system to address quality of life issues for people with serious illness and family caregivers. Cedar-Sinai Medical Center was also recognized for their long-time support of C-TAC and the Blue Chair Fund.
