To C-TAC, the meaning of equity in our work is the transformation of care for all Americans living with serious illness, focusing on achieving the highest level of anti-racist care for those who are the sickest, most vulnerable, and disadvantaged. Last month, C-TAC continued our commitment to advancing health equity by hosting the latest J.E.D.I (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) workshop

In 2022, C-TAC expanded our relationships on the Hill, deepened our engagement with state leaders, and continued our dialogue with the Administration through our regulatory and administrative advocacy. Heading into 2023 our focus remains on creating a continuum of care for patients and their families from diagnosis through to the end of life, working with innovative care models such as: Home-Based Primary Care, Palliative Care, PACE, and Hospice.

The Death Deck was created by Lisa Pahl and Lori LoCicero. Lisa was the hospice social worker for Lori’s late husband, Joe. While Lori and Joe were more prepared on paper than most people in their 40s, there were very few conversations about their end of life wishes. Because of this, Lori felt unprepared for what Joe would want in his final days and following his death. The Death Deck is the game that Lori wishes she could have played with Joe.

In 2023, CTAC is looking forward to highlighting the patient and caregiver stories that have not been given a voice. The Goals of Care Coalition of New Jersey (GOCCNJ) was founded in 2018 to better communicate, coordinate and collaborate on issues and activities to improve care for people living with serious illness.

She created a spiritual and ethical guide for Black communities to have advance care and end-of-life planning conversations.

In recognition of National Public Health Week, C-TAC is spotlighting an innovative public-health approach to improving end-of-life care, the Compassionate Communities (CC) model.

C-TAC hosted a member meet-up where leaders from the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) and The Peaceful Presence Project discussed how and why we must prioritize incorporating doulas into end-of-life care teams.
