About The Death Deck
The Death Deck was created by Lisa Pahl and Lori LoCicero. Lisa was the hospice social worker for Lori’s late husband, Joe. While Lori and Joe were more prepared on paper than most people in their 40s, there were very few conversations about their end of life wishes. Because of this, Lori felt unprepared for what Joe would want in his final days and following his death. The Death Deck is the game that Lori wishes she could have played with Joe.
Using multiple choice questions and a dose of humor, The Death Deck opens up conversations about death and dying. With a wide range of questions (112 total), the deck can be used for game nights, advance care planning conferences, death doula community engagements, and just about every setting.
In March 2023, Lisa and Lori launched their new product, The E•O•L (End-of-Life) Deck
The E•O•L Deck is a tool for professionals working with hospice, palliative care, and aging populations to explore end-of-life preferences with their patients. The E•O•L Deck consists of 52 all new questions with a focus on legacy and preparing for one’s final days. This is the tool that Lisa is now using daily in her role as a hospice social worker.
The mission of The Death Deck, LLC is to normalize conversations on death and dying and to help individuals, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status be more prepared for end of life.
The Death Deck is excited to join C-TAC as we recognize the many barriers that people of marginalized communities face in not only accessing end-of-life care but also in advance care planning and the many facets of death preparation. We are interested in collaborating with others within the ACP and faith communities space to make preparing for death more accessible for everyone.
