The need for advance care planning has become further amplified with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Significant policy breakthroughs occurred such as the CMS waiver to allow audio-only advance care planning to be a critical part of identifying and honoring the goals and values of those experiencing serious illness. We can’t go back. This roundtable discussion covers the case for continued change: that advance care planning should be integrated into every CMS program that touches the lives of the person with serious illness and their family.
