Omega Home Network (OHN) is a national non-profit membership organization that fosters the development and growth of community homes for people who are dying. Founded in 2017, we have grown to over 100 members in 30 states. Omega Homes are a home-away-from-home for people in their last weeks of life who need more help than family and friends can provide. They are not hospices but collaborate with them to fill the gap in caregiving that stresses individuals and families at the end of life.
Omega Homes are:
- designed for and focused on non-medical comfort care at the end of life
- independent and freestanding 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
- in collaborative working relationships with the resident’s hospice care team
- not a hospital, nursing home, hospice or medical facility
- funded by community and family support
- staffed by volunteers and/or paid caregivers who are considered “extended family”
- complementary and not duplicative to what already exists in the community
Person-centered, individualized care is lovingly provided for people who have chosen to live their best life while letting nature take its course. With hospice directing the case management, Omega Homes staff and volunteers provide the living space, personal 24/7 care, medication assistance and companionship while walking the final days journey with the dying person, family and friends. Through volunteer engagement, support services such as massage and music and pet therapy enhance quality of life.
Omega Homes are part of the movement to improve the end-of-life experience for individuals and families in America. OHN connects these independent homes and facilitates a grassroots effort to spread this innovative model. Membership spans those who have been providing compassionate care in their communities for 30+ years to members who are inspired by the vision and want to get started. Embracing a strong pay-it-forward culture, our members share expertise so that new projects do not have to re-invent the wheel. Member homes welcome site visits from developing projects and offer education, resources, support and mentoring. A start-up manual, online forum, monthly webinars and annual national conference are among the resources offered.
OHN is proud to join C-TAC in shared efforts to provide person-centered care that meets patients’ goals and honors their dignity. More information and an interactive map of Omega Homes and developing projects are available at omegahomenetwork.org.
