HHS Announces New Funding to Support Community-Based COVID-19 Response

On April 19, HHS announced an investment of $150 million to community-based health care providers, supporting their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding, made available through the Health Resources and Services Administration, will support approximately 100 Health Center Program look-alikes (LALs) to respond to and mitigate the spread of COVID-19, strengthen vaccination efforts and enhance health care services and infrastructure in communities across the country.

LALs provide essential primary care services at the community level, supporting underserved communities and vulnerable populations. However, they are not Health Center Program grantees. In an announcement on the HHS website, the agency notes that this effort is part of President Biden’s commitment to ensuring equity in the nation’s COVID-19 response.
