In response to an increased demand for learning opportunities about how justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) intersect with serious illness and end-of-life care, C-TAC is thrilled and excited to partner with Reimagine and Holistic Underground to host a two-day JEDI training workshop with funding from the John and Wauna Harman Foundation and The Y.C. Ho/Helen and Michael Chiang Foundation. These efforts come on the coattails of a 2021 Reimagine JEDI session for C-TAC members and our 2021 National Summit, where a special networking event exposed participants to insightful conversations on applying principles of health equity in our field. The recent attention to JEDI struck a vein of interest with leaders throughout our coalition members, which range from major health plans to community-based organizations.
Participants will leave with a powerful framework and toolset for transforming serious illness care. These tools will be applicable in all areas of life where we seek to have courageous conversations that spell progress. Participants will also leave having contributed something beautiful to the community whose art, culture, and hospitality we will enjoy. The wisdom and ideas we co-create through our practice with the new tools will be carried forward from city to city, forging a new national approach for transforming serious illness care.
The event will take place on September 22-24 in Leimert Park in Los Angeles, CA, and offer the opportunity for participants to explore how JEDI principles can be applied in their work and hear from grassroots service providers about their community-centered programs. Leimert Park is a vibrant neighborhood located in South LA. Reimagine specifically picked this community for the workshop as it has long been a cultural hub for LA’s African American community and residents speak highly of the friendly neighbors, community pride, and history of this area. The community also has existed at the intersection of creativity, grief, and resilience. The heart of this neighborhood is Leimert Village, which is full of art galleries, unique restaurants, bookstores, and shops.
The Executive Director for the John and Wauna Harman Foundation, Julie Boudreau, recognizes the importance of disseminating JEDI principles throughout our field and shared how she thinks this event will benefit our field:
“This workshop provides a rare and much-needed opportunity for us to reflect, expand our awareness, and learn new approaches to addressing long-standing inequities that affect care access and quality. Professionals at any stage of the equity learning journey will benefit from this supportive, practical training based on principles that can be applied in any setting.”

C-TAC is absolutely ecstatic that this event has come together and participants can leave this immersive and innovative workshop with clear next steps and budding partnerships as C-TAC will be bringing a series of entrepreneurs and leaders from across the country, sharing their projects and programs in the field to tie-in with the succinct and forward-thinking education.
This dynamic event is open to C-TAC members and their partner organizations. I look forward to seeing you all there!
