Oklahoma Hospice and Palliative Care Association was established in 1983, we educate and advocate for quality hospice and palliative care throughout the State of Oklahoma. OHPCA strives to be a resource to hospice providers in order to best serve patients facing a terminal illness. “Not all hospice providers are the same, most have a similar philosophy, but each is a different company offering different services. OHPCA strives to be the platform to consistently educate healthcare professionals in order to keep their skill-set up to date in the ever changing world of hospice care,” said Michelle Fox, President OHPCA.OHPCA is a true leader in education and advocacy. We offer an annual conference, specialty CMS seminars, online training and webinars. We focus on regulatory updates, palliative care, and hospice specific disciplinary approaches to care, reimbursement challenges and provide solutions. “Our annual conference gets better every year and I am pleased to see that OHPCA offers national industry leaders and speakers to present at our conference,” stated Laura Trammell, Past President. We offer several avenues for healthcare professionals to meet all their continuing education requirements.
One aspect of OHPCA that deserves a highlight is our commitment to legislation and making the best possible changes related to hospice and palliative care. We have a lobbyist that attends our board meetings and serves as a government liaison bringing information directly to state officials when legislation is being considered. We want to be the voice of our communities and initiate the needed changes to best serve our patients and families.
When Oklahoma Hospice and Palliative Care Association was approached about joining C-TAC, the timing was perfect for our organization. Trammell explains, “OHPCA recognized the opportunity to collaborate with C-TAC in effort to strengthen our resources to assist providers in Oklahoma. We joined during a national pandemic which shows our commitment to our membership in bringing the most up to date information in an ever changing world. C-TAC has done an excellent job addressing new issues related to advanced care. OHPCA looks forward to our partnership with C-TAC which will continue to increase our ability to assist more people suffering with advanced illnesses.”
“Hospice is so underutilized as people don’t like to think about hospice until they are forced to, it is important to me to continuously educate in order to break down the negative stereotypes associated with death, dying and hospice” stated Trammell. Hospice is truly a gift and all people deserve to be able to make the best educated decisions related to end of life care. OHPCA cares about the work we do and the difference we make.
