C-TAC Joins White House on Community Effort to Promote COVID-19 Vaccines

C-TAC is proud to be a founding member of the COVID-19 Community Corps, a new U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) initiative to galvanize trusted messengers in the fight against COVID-19. The program, launched earlier this month, aims to increase confidence in COVID-19 vaccines and encourage measures to slow the spread of the disease.

Members of the national volunteer initiative receive timely information on vaccines which they can share in their communities in order to increase uptake of COVID-19 vaccines. This is especially important for people with serious illness, who are particularly vulnerable to complications resulting from COVID-19.

C-TAC was connected to the COVID-19 Community Corps through Rev. Dr. Tyrone Pitts, the Co-Chair of our Interfaith Workgroup who has also collaborated with the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

“What the Community Corps strives to do is make sure that everyone receives the COVID-19 vaccine, especially those in communities that have traditionally been overlooked or underserved by our healthcare system,” says Rev. Dr. Pitts.

This commitment is an extension of our effort to tackle racial disparities in serious illness care, which have become even more prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are dedicated to advocating for people with serious illness and their families to ensure that everyone is able to receive a vaccine.

“We’re still in the throes of this pandemic,” says C-TAC Executive Director Jon Broyles, “and it’s crucial that we meet people where they are. The COVID-19 Community Corps gives trusted local voices the tools they need to help those around them to receive the vaccine.”

Over 275 organizations are now members of the COVID-19 Community Corps, a diverse group that includes healthcare leaders like the American Medical Association and the American Public Health Association, entertainment giants like Major League Baseball and NASCAR, organized labor leaders like AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), as well as organizations representing Black, Latinx, Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities and many more. How to Get Involved

In order to maximize our impact, we must work together. C-TAC members, partners and staff have already played a critical role in raising awareness and in some cases, directly providing the COVID-19 vaccine.
