New Enhancing Oncology Model Incorporates C-TAC Principles

CTAC + Jul 06, 2022

CMMI just announced the next version of the Oncology Care model, the new Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM). This model builds on the previous model by adding a mandatory 2-sided risk payment component along with allowing other payers such as health plans and MA to participate. C-TAC was pleased to see this focus on value-based payment along with the requirement of assessing for social risk factors and encouraging referral to community services for those needing them in line with our core principles for models for serious illness populations. Some beneficiaries may also qualify for additional care planning, coordination, and navigation.  Although palliative care is not one of the required services, participating providers must follow current oncology guidelines, which recommend access to palliative care from diagnosis on. Also, while mostly a clinic-based model, there will be some provision for home and telehealth visits.

Here’s the link to the RFA and applications due by September 30th, 2022.

We encourage C-TAC members to learn more and consider participating in this new model.
