Jared Calfee leads AARP Virginia’s state advocacy and financial security programming. In his role with AARP, Jared is responsible for determining legislative priorities, crafting an advocacy strategy, lobbying the General Assembly, and leading the state volunteer advocacy team. He also leads the office’s work on fraud prevention education.
Prior to joining AARP Virginia, Jared spent seven years as Executive Director for Virginia21, an advocacy organization for young Virginians, where he fought for better financial aid, student loan reform, and greater political involvement among young people.
Prior to joining Virginia21, Jared worked for The Virginia Public Access Project, a nonprofit dedicated to making information about Virginia government and politics easily accessible to the public. He has worked on several political and issue campaigns, as a legislative aide for a member of the Virginia General Assembly and performed non-profit and communications consulting. He was a 2024 Style Weekly Magazine Top 40 under 40 award recipient. He holds a degree in Government from William & Mary. He and his wife Alicia live in Henrico with their two daughters and two dogs.
