Advance care planning helps prepare people for future medical decision making and is especially important for those living with serious illness. C-TAC was a supporter of the ACP billing codes introduced in 2016 and has tracked their usage since then. However, over time, we’ve come to realize that the patient cost sharing for these codes is a barrier and one that disproportionately affects Black and Latinx communities. In this Health Affairs blog post co-authored by C-TAC Senior Regulator Advisor’s Marian Grant, they outline steps C-TAC has taken to try to remove this cost sharing and our plans to do so in the future.
