Dr. Stephanie Anderson is a visionary leader dedicated to enhancing the quality of care for people with serious illness and their caregivers. With over 30 years of experience, she has forged impactful collaborations among community organizations, healthcare providers, payors, and policymakers across the nation, championing holistic care and driving systemic innovation.
Early in her career, Stephanie had a profound realization that her focus must be on the individual, and it was critically important to look behind mere room numbers and diagnoses. This pivotal moment ignited a passion to transform healthcare. She became committed to pioneering initiatives that prioritize evidence-based comprehensive care models, leading efforts to redesign, implement, and scale systems of care for the benefit of those in need.
In her recent endeavors, Stephanie has been passionately working to bridge the gap in healthcare and social support access, particularly among underserved communities. She brings to this work expertise in organizational leadership, systems change, advance care planning, shared decision making, palliative care, hospice, home care, and care management. Stephanie earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Iowa, specializing in health systems administration.
As the former Executive Director of Respecting Choices, Stephanie spearheaded the organization’s evolution amidst a changing healthcare landscape. Under her guidance, Respecting Choices adapted to emerging needs while remaining at the forefront of best practices and evidence-based standards. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Respecting Choices pivoted swiftly to support frontline healthcare workers and patients effectively.
Stephanie serves on the senior leadership team, as VP – Programs and Projects, for the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC). She focuses on strategic collaborations and attainment of C-TAC’s long-term strategic goals.
Stephanie has received numerous recognitions for her leadership, including the Circle of Life award from the American Hospital Association. She also played a pivotal role in driving legislative reforms and statewide implementation through the Iowa Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment (IPOST) movement. In addition to her national work, Stephanie has served as vice president on the board of directors for Advance Care Planning–International.
