Michelle Owens, DO, FAAHPM

Director of Specialty Care, Central Health; Affiliate Faculty, UT Austin Dell Medical School

Dr. Michelle Owens is a hospice and palliative medicine physician who lives in Austin, TX. She received her osteopathic medical degree from Kansas City University (KCU). She completed her family medicine residency at UT Austin Dell Medical School in Austin, TX, and completed her hospice and palliative medicine (HPM) fellowship at UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. She is the Director of Specialty Care for Central Health, the public hospital district serving the low-income residents of Travis County. She has been a leader in program development in both inpatient and outpatient palliative medicine, as well as served as the lead physician at an inpatient hospice unit and as an associate medical director for a virtual company where she helped champion innovation in the field of palliative medicine. She is a former graduate of the American Academy of Family Practice (AAFP) Leading Physician Well-being Program and currently serves as an Ambassador and junior faculty for the program. She has a passion for integrating well-being within the workplace. She is the co-founder and co-chair of the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) self-care community, as well as co-chair of the Travis County Medical Society Physician Wellness Program. She participates in the education of medical students, residents and HPM fellows as Affiliate faculty at the UT Austin Dell Medical School. She enjoys spending quality time with her husband and 2 amazing kids, as well as listening to live music, eating good food and traveling.
