Angela Poppe Ries, MD, MBA

Angela Poppe Ries, MD, MBA, is the Chief Medical Officer of VyncaCare, a virtual palliative care provider organization that combines her expertise in patient care with her knowledge of health care management to lead health care innovation.

Dr. Poppe Ries started her career at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health System. There she founded their palliative care program. During this time, she helped pass Maryland state legislation for palliative care and for alternative models of health delivery. Angela was also the director of a transitional health clinic that was a driver for reducing readmissions and over-utilization of health care while greatly enhancing patient experience. While working within the University of Maryland Medical System, she served on their Clinical Performance Council which standardized quality metrics across a 13-hospital health care system.

Dr. Poppe Ries spent a year at Humana working to streamline post-acute care processes and ensure palliative care needs were met in regional markets. She has been the medical director for both Amedisys Hospice and Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care. While at each of these organizations, she partnered with local health systems to reduce readmissions for patients with complex needs while increasing quality and access for patients. She helped launch skilled nursing center collaboratives and telehealth initiatives.

Dr. Poppe Ries is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She earned her medical degree at Duke School of Medicine and has a Master of Business Administration from the Fox School of Business at Temple University.
