Amy Helwig, MD, MS

EVP, RTI Health Advance

Dr. Helwig is a board-certified physician with extensive experience leading large healthcare organizations, developing strategies that explore new payment models and improve clinical quality performance, and driving innovations in utilization of patient reported outcome data to improve outcomes and healthcare value.

She joined RTI Health Advance in 2020 from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Health Plan where she served as Chief Quality Officer and Vice President of quality improvement and performance. Previously, Amy held positions at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services where she served as Deputy Director, Center for Quality Improvement & Patient Safety at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ); Chief Medical Officer and Director of Health IT Safety and Clinical Informatics at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology; and leader of the Patient Safety Organization Program in the Center for Quality Improvement & Patient Safety at AHRQ.

Dr. Helwig is a frequently published author and reviewer for scientific journals and holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Medical College of Wisconsin, a Master of Science degree in medical informatics from Milwaukee School of Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is also board certified with the American Board of Family Medicine, a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a licensed physician in Virginia and Pennsylvania.
